To our Birkenhead Neighbours and Friends,

In a world that feels increasingly busy and transactional, we all need a place where we can simply be.

At Ourhouse Community Centre (188 Hinemoa Street), we have built a "home away from home"—a non-transactional, multi-purpose community space designed for young families, remote workers, and everyone in between. Whether it’s a parent finding a moment of calm in our lounge while their child plays, a freelancer using our free workspace, or a neighbour attending a koha-based workshop, Ourhouse exists to foster wellbeing and connection.

The Vision: The "Power of $2"

Our goal is to keep Ourhouse sustainable and accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. We believe the community can power this space together. This is our flagship project, and we hope to role model to the rest of New Zealand that spaces like this is possible.

We are looking for 1,000 local legends to commit to a $2 weekly donation.

While $2 is less than the price of half a coffee, when 1,000 of us stand together, it provides the foundational funding needed to keep our doors open, our Wi-Fi free, and our kitchen stocked.

What Your $2 a Week Supports:

  • A Safe Haven for Families 7 days a week: Maintaining our kid-friendly communal kitchen, play resources, massage chair, library, and outdoor area.

  • Community Wellbeing: Funding our Kaitiaki (guardians) who welcome every visitor and facilitate support.

  • Inclusive Events: Keeping our workshops, parenting circles, and community catch-ups free or koha-based.

  • A Productive Workspace: Providing free desks, high-speed internet, computer and commercial printer for local residents to work and create.

How to Join the "Ourhouse 1000"

Joining is simple. By setting up a small weekly automatic payment, you become a stakeholder in the heartbeat of Birkenhead.

  1. Set up an AP: $2.00 per week (or $8.60 per month).

  2. Account Name: Our House Collective Limited

  3. Account Number: 12-3658-0003973-00

  4. Reference: Your Name / "1000"

We will add your name to our ‘Ourhouse 1000’ tree on the deck to say thank you for the support.
